Corporate Presentation
In what sectors is Iris Capital active, and why?

We are interested in product and service companies as well as enabling technologies in our three specific areas of interest: the Media & Entertainment, Communications and IT/Internet industries. Always growing overall, these industries continue to experience constant redistribution of positions among the major players and on-going technological change, giving rise to very attractive high-growth segments for niche players. We believe these market segments will represent an enormous field of investment and opportunities for success well into the future. And as a specialized investor with significant experience, we are uniquely positioned to exploit complementarities between these overlapping sectors.

 Where does Iris Capital invest?

We invest essentially in Europe and from time to time in North America, in the case of companies having a European angle. A truly European growth capital management firm, Iris Capital stands out through its original industrial positioning (notably in the field of media) and strong presence in key European markets and sectors. We have historically invested across 18 European countries and have significant and successful experience in North America.

In what companies does Iris Capital invest?

We proactively look for companies that are profitable or within reach of profitability, seeking to expand following internal or external growth plans. We also invest in small buy-outs and special situations such as corporate spin-offs, PIPEs, public-to-private and secondary transactions.

Is Iris Capital an active shareholder?

We are proactive investors. When we invest, we bring capital, but we also bring know-how and support of growth. Our specialization allows us to speak the same language as the entrepreneurs we partner with, and our experience allows us to better manage situations we encounter together. We have a large international network of entrepreneurs, investors and industrial partners, first among which are our portfolio companies. These relationships afford us privileged information and contacts, from which our portfolio companies can in turn benefit. We foster an environment of open communication between ourselves and the company managers. They have a considerable task, made easier when they can consult a partner who is removed from daily operations, but who shares the same long-term vision. In return, we expect transparency, reactivity and dedication.

The meaning of: Experience, Focus, Ethics

Entrepreneurs partnering with Iris will find us to be an active and value-added investor, supporting the development of their company, but moreover, a partner who behaves ethically and correctly. Active yes, but not activist. We help define company strategy as a matter of course, but do not interfere with day-to-day management. Respect and trust are essential values at Iris Capital - we win only if the entrepreneur wins.

What is a typical investment size?

We invest between 3M and 20M euros per company. We keep some reserves to be able to participate in follow-on investment rounds in order to support the company’s development.

What is the typical duration of investments?

We are long-term investors, creating value through the growth of our investee companies. On average, the duration of our investments is 4/5 years. But we are able to accommodate specific situations and to handle opportunities, taking into consideration the M&A and IPO markets cycles.

Does Iris Capital lead the investment round?

In Europe, we typically act as a lead or co-lead investor, but we do not impose this: each case differs depending on investment size and geographic proximity. In North America, we prefer to partner with a local fund as a lead investor to facilitate the transaction and the follow-up.

Does Iris Capital take a board seat?

We intend on participating in the strategic decision-making process within the company, and therefore we do require to a seat on the company’s board, allowing us in turn to bring to the company our experience in good corporate governance.

What are some of Iris' references?

We have supported such successful companies as Phone.com (Openwave), SFR, Wavecom, E-Plus, Gallimard, SBS Broadcasting, Cinar Films, Cirpack, Fastbooking to name a few. See our portfolio section for more detailed information.
